Livingroom - Steps by algenpfleger Livingroom - Steps by algenpfleger
Should've uploaded this sooner, had it on my blog and thought I shouldn't spam dA so much, but since some people seem to have their heads up their butt all the way up to the thorax, here goes another step by step! :la:

And even though some people (?) seem to think the maximum somebody can do from imagination is stick figures, there was no refs, textures or 3D involved in this. If there was, it wouldn't look so flat, ffs, if someone thinks that even MY stuff is impossible, what would they think about people who are actually GOOD at painting? :I

Please forgive me for sounding a bit bitter here, it's just that I don't understand how some always open their mouth so much wider than their knowledge supports.

More shit (and studies! No reference for this one doesn't mean I don't study!) on my blog! [link]

Here's also the psd file:

You've got an amazing visual library! That's for sure. Awesome that you can come up with all this just from your head. You've got tons of experience, and you are actually good at painting. Lol, why do amazing artists always think they're bad?

it should be a compliment that your work is so unbelievable. I used to take offense when people insisted I "traced that". Now I just say... BELIEVE IT BABY! No really I just say, well, I don't care if you believe it or not. Ha! and I move on. Your work is amazing. I was looking at "sleeping beauty" going..... whaaaat? looks 3D or.... wait those close-ups are painted... whaaaaaat??? Then I got to this and I'm like - that wood is SO pasted-in photographs!!! omgwtfbbq. But if you say you painted it - I believe you! Even without looking at the psd, (which I just stopped to look at) YOU ARE UNBELIEVABLE! Honestly there are no words. I hope you have a good job. You deserve it.

A lot of digital artists including myself paint textures in a different window in photoshop, then apply them. We also sometimes keep all of our textures we painted in storage to use again later. That way we have textures, but they were all made ourselves. ^^ Thinking ahead! You have nice art, btw! I'm going to take a look at your gallery.

There's nothing harder than making up lighting on a form... So with flat lighting lie this if course it is possible.

I can see that your mind is always looking, thinking, solving, and learning.

Are you sure you didn't use any textures? So how did you engrain every wood grain into that counter top? And on the top of the chair? And how did you put every speck onto the marble flooring?

Gonna need to see some proof that you didn't use textures before believing this is all from scratch - but either way, good work here.

Step 1 - Sketch or design everything
Step 2 - Have most of it complete.

;) Lol, such a huge step, You're a freak lol, there isn't many more that are better at painting then you are. There are very few that could do this.

I'll just paste this from the other places i posted it:

Im afraid I started this mess by doubting the lack of a 3D reference here and I still do.
I do not doubt the talent of the artist however, since I've seen his other work and some of it is impressive. The mass of comments implying I lack talent or are simply jealous is surprising since the only thing I ever did was doubting the lack of references for a complicated piece like this. Seems this artist has a posse of followers who will defend him regardless :) That wont help him in the real world looking for work tho :)

brahe1600 talks a lot of sense! We should never be afraid to question things, even if that questions somebody's statement. In my country we have something called freedom of speech and you should be able to question anything you want. Forums are turning into a single sided affair, where if a belief or an ideal is introduced then everyone must agree to it and if there's any opposition, then the user who's opposed must be oppressed. What a fair brainwashed online society we live in!

If we accept limitations on speech, then we cut our freedoms on our living within a free society.

whats this supposed to mean?
1st of Im not his follower or worshiper, but reading your comment just annoyed the fuck out of me. no matter how I try to your read it, it just comes of as "jealous artist who try to bring down others coz he's not very good"

well said! People always want to find anything to criticize, with eyes that are spoiled by all the beautiful art they see. I dont like that and i dont give a shit on how such a good piece of art is created, as long as nothing is stolen.

OH my god, this is not 3D? I thought it was a render, geez. O.O You are awesome and you really give me hope that painting from one's mind is possible. Because if the widely spreat opinion that you need refs or you are a noob I was afraid that it really doesn't work well. :/
Thanks for sharing this!
And by the way, to me it doesn't look flat at all. It looks highly realistic (especially the surfaces, perspective and lighting). You are a really really really big inspiration to me!

The type of people that says those things are (1) insecure about their own ineptitude, (2) have a highly limited imagination so they cannot comprehend what they do not already know how to do, and (3) suck at life.

Ignore 'em. Trolls die when you don't feed them.

So.. wait, you're saying you didn't use textures or anything for the floor and table and counter? I figured this was a 3d thing or photomanip of some kind.

If you painted it you should post the stages of that. Did you flatten the image after or something? Sorry I'm just confused, it looks really good and I'd like to see how you did that amazing wood grain. Maybe I misunderstood- you say you didn't use any reference or texture or 3d? How can you paint something like that without reference? That's impressive, do you just do a lot of paintings with wood or something?

You should do something outside the window, like a landscape yknow? That'd really make it spectacular. Though I suppose a comment like that belongs on the finished work, oops. :P
