Hello everyone! You probably know about the custom tokens I've been designing over the past months. Well - it's finally time to share them with the world!
Here's a Kickstarter campaign to finally produce a neat little set of my tokens for all of you who play Magic. It's 32 cards and contains all you need for the current Modern format. The tokens are the exact dimensions of Magic cards and fit in the same sleeves too. On top of it, it comes with three exclusive tokens that'll only be available in this set.

Go here to see the campaign!

All the best

Hey all!

My first round of mentoring was fun, and I (and my students if they weren't lying) learned a lot.
Based on the experience from those two months, I'm starting a second round of skype teaching.

I'm changing up a few things in order to make the program more effective, and teach more while idling less. It's 1 on 1 teaching via skype screensharing. The duration is 4 weeks with a two hour session each week, focusing on composition, storytelling, color, light, gestures, bodylanguage, perspective, and also including topics a student might specifically wish to cover. Also included in the whole thing will be guidance on working in the field, building a commercially viable portfolio, and critique and overpaints of the student's work!

Prerequisite is high motivation - and I mean high! The workload will be intense.

If you're interested, shoot me an email! algenpfleger@gmail.com

On another note, I'll be at the Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix in Madrid next month, signing cards and doing some live painting! Whee!

Cheers!

Hey everyone!

Some of you might remember the old days on conceptart.org when everyone would post all the things they drew every day and kick each other's butt and give critique and get motivated over seeing how much everyone around you would be improving. For the last years, there hasn't really been a place to get that kind of motivation any more.

I made a small forum to rekindle that kind of helpful atmosphere. It's a really small community, just for posting practice work and getting critique from others. A bunch of great people are already there posting their daily stuff and kicking each other's butt. Obviously I'm there too, updating every day with studies and drawings and so on.

If you're looking for a place to get your ass kicked with motivation and your head filled with insights from others, you're welcome to join.

So to those burning to get better, I'll see you there! Everyone else is also welcome to come lurk of course <3

Edit: Here's my own thread full of sketches and stuff that I update daily! forums.permanoobs.org/viewtopi…
And I also just made an account on artstation - follow me if you want! <3 www.artstation.com/artist/alge…

Hey all!

Those of you who've followed my journey from noob to now know that a large part of what formed my identity as an artist, came from a willingness to try out new things and not worry about crashing and burning many times over. I'm not as active in the community as I used to be, but I am watching with my large curious seal eyes, and there's something that caught my attention and I think it's time for me to try something that I haven't seen done.

I usually don't accept private commissions as I've always been unable to bring myself to ask the prices companies pay me from individuals. Then after that came a time where I simply was more interested in having free time, doings sports, learning about non-art things, and so on. Generally I prefer to work as little as possible because the more time I have to experiment and do stuff I haven't done, the happier and healthier I am.

More likely than not, some of you have seen the recent spike in media coverage that cryptocurrencies have gotten, and also how quickly interest fell just after. I think the main problem here is that while a general curiosity is there, most parts of the public still don't really trust or understand the concept of it - and why it's useful and a needed evolution. The technology is still young and not widely adapted. What is needed is a little risktaking - more vendors accepting it, more people using it to pay, more journalists educating the public on the benefits.

So to cut to the chase, I will from now on accept private commissions - but not in anything other than cryptocurrencies. I have some free time at the moment that I am willing to invest in this idea, to see how it will pan out.

As to the specifications - since this is an experiment, and my mind files it under such, I'll be a lot more open to all sorts of ideas, including sketches (which I've never done on commission) and different subjects. I'm really just curious as to if the general concept of combining art commissions with cryptocurrencies works, and that willingness to explore also applies to what I offer in return.

Of course there's a lot of pitfalls here - it might be a bad time to offer anything in return for cryptocoins, there might not be any overlap between the art crowd and the people that actually use cryptocurrencies, the whole concept might be a fad that dies soon and leaves me sitting on a ton of wasted time with nothing to show for it, the technology might be rendered obsolete by something else - it's not the same thing as working for actual money, but that's for me what taking risks and experimenting is all about.

So, if you're interested - email or note me.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everybody! You are awesome! :la:

Join there. The way I'm planning to organize it is that everyone can suggest meeting spots and times, and if there's a good consensus that most are happy with (including me, duh) there'll probably be journals to announce when and where we meet.

So go ahead and join!

Hey everybody :la:

I was thinking about this. Would it be fun to hang out with local artists to sketch and talk and whatnot? Doesn't have to be the drawing/painting type either, going out for some street photography for example is awesome too.

So if you're in Leipzig, comment here and maybe we can get something going!

Cheers! <3

Hey everyone!

Please look at this image: i.imgur.com/de8MKUQ.jpg
And this second one: i.imgur.com/FYadSHk.jpg

Then please tell: Your age and gender and sexual preference, and which one you find the most attractive.

Maybe, if you're interested, also go into different kinds of attractiveness? Marriage material vs One night stand material?
ALSO what really interests me: What are your thoughts on society's image of the male body? The public discussion is always about female bodies and how their perception is too unrealistic, but some would for example argue that a male fitness model has to work a lot harder than a female one (and is much further away from an 'average' body). Do you think young males are equally impressible and misled about their bodies as young females? If so or not so, why? What about body hair? Also, what are your thoughts on whether or not sexual preference influences your preferred bodytype? Would gay men prefer other bodies than straight women? How much does age influence this? I think all of these questions are really interesting and I'd love to hear your feedback.
And to the guys: Please do tell what you'd like your bodytype to be ideally - I think comparing that to what the girls say they're attracted to might be quite interesting.

Thanks! <3 Remember to be happy!

I will be attending the GP in Lisbon next weekend (Nov 31st-Dec 3rd). I'll be there signing, selling prints and just hanging out.

So, two questions!
First!
Anyone that I've always wanted to meet there to hang out? I'm not sure how much time I'll have but it would be fun, since I'm usually not in Portugal that often.

Second!
To the MtG players, assuming you'd be attending the GP, what prints would you be interested in buying? If any? The cards that I like and the ones that people want might be completely different and I don't want to end up disappointing anyone who wanted to get a poster or something.

Besides that, what would you say is there in Lisbon that I just HAVE to do? Something really awesome?

Type away! I want to make that weekend fun!

Thanks for the feedback on the comic page everybody! <3 I've decided that it's worth the effort to sort through the pages and upload it. It's complete in the sense of the story, meaning all pages and bubbles and the lettering are there, but only the characters are inked and there's no screentones. But since the way it is, it is readable, I will share it.

Cheers everybody!

A life sign! I realize I haven't been too active recently, and I feel bad for not replying to all the lovely notes and comments, but err, no excuses.

I moved into a new apartment and was without internet for a while, and on top of it there were lots of changes in my life, like, seeing the outside world (only a tiny bit, don't worry), doing things other than drawing (only a tiny bit, don't worry) and sleeping a lot. (No really, a lot. Be worried.) Also real life and such, even though I've never been one for heavy socializing I did indeed try myself at it recently and it can be fun if done in moderation. All in all I spent most of this summer by simply existing and looking at the sky or like, trees and stuff, so there was not a whole lot of art going on.

BUT I do have some new work on the way, and I realize I need to pretty much renew my entire gallery, it's all dusty and gross and moldy by now and there needs to be new stuff in there. I'll see what I can do about that. I've been experimenting with different things, not sure how much of that I'm gonna post but I did also do some client work that hopefully I will be able to upload soon.

And then there's lots of other ideas slowly hatching in the back of my head. It's weird how once you get the load of paying bills of your back, there's suddenly space to breathe a little bit and creativity returns slowly, a lot like a little flower that wilts if you look at it, so that's all stuff that will need to be left alone for a bit more before anything will come off it. So I'll just be super vague here and hope to impress you by implying depth without any real substance. Did it work?

Bottom line is, after much consideration I have decided to not quit painting after all, and even though it's not really something I do every day anymore I think I still enjoy it so I will keep doing it, seeing how it also is a pretty fun way of paying bills and stuff like that.

Either way the comment section of this journal is an official say hi and other random things to me, so blurb ahead and I will blurb back since I need a break right now anyways.

Hey guys!

If you've read my last journal entry, you know how I feel about helping people and charging money for stuff. I put a lot of effort into making tutorials and brushes and psd's and I consider it really important to share them for free, to help out people who are starting, just like things like these helped me when I was starting out.

Problem is, I am fairly busy with clients, and I'm working on a large personal project (that I can't talk about yet, but hopefully will be able to soon! <3 ) too, so the amount of sharing I'm able to do is limited by the time that I'm left with after paying bills and working on what's close to my heart. I want to help people as much as possible and I hate seeing beginners getting ripped off but I only have that much freetime so I can't do as much as I'd like to do.

If however there was a way to replace some of the client work with doing tutorials without losing out in the process, I'd obviously go for that, since helping people learn art is always better than helping other people make money!

So my question is this: If I went out of my way to put actual effort into more tutorials than I am already doing, and properly think them out and record paintings and release that as videos with proper actual voiceover explaining, would you be willing to pay for something like that?

I would not stop doing what I've been doing so far with the psd's and brushes and steps (I'd never charge for that, you know how lame I find people who do), what we're talking about is additional material on top of it all that I would not be able to do otherwise. There'd be no less of the stuff that I'm already sharing - just something more those who want it could support create. I wouldn't have to squeeze it in between the necessary things the way I am doing right now and I could take extra time to maybe interact with the community to see what people really want to learn about.

So just to know what you guys think, please let me ask a few questions:

Would you be interested in me doing something like that that you could purchase?

How much would you be willing to pay? Like, what do people even normally charge for things like this?

What topics would you be interested in?

Thanks for your time, and double thanks if you're replying and sharing your thoughts!

Cheers!
